Submitter: John L. MAURATH (conlaeth@juno.com)
Date: 24 Jan 2002

Looking for 1877 newspaper article, regarding a Mississippi River drowning victim, whose body may have washed up somehwere along Mississippi County. Civil War veteran Michael SAILER/SEILER/SILER contracted malaria and other diseases while in the service, which affected his mind, and caused him to have spells of depression and suicide. It's believed that he walked into the Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau on "the day after Ascension Day, 1877" and he was never seen again. Please keep an eye out for any such article, if you're one who scans old newspaper articles.

This group originally came from Williamson Co TN and settled in East Prairie in 1881 on very fertile land. Unfortunately many of their children died, and both of the mothers died too. The men remarried and moved on to Oregon Co MO in 1898 leaving behind a "lot of graves" as my grandfather put it. Is anyone else researching this line?
